The Temple Hill Symphony Orchestra in Oakland, CA is pleased to be joining with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute to present Link Up: The Orchestra Rocks. This FREE program pairs local schools with a local orchestra to provide an unforgettable musical experience for 3rd to 5th grades students.

 

What is Link Up?

Carnegie Hall’s Link Up program pairs orchestras with students in grades 3–5 at schools in their local communities, giving students the opportunity to learn about, listen to, and perform great music. Students participating in Link Up explore an interactive curriculum in which they learn to sing and play an instrument in the classroom before performing with the orchestra from their seats at a culminating concert. Link Up provides a free, high-quality yearlong curriculum that teachers can implement, along with teaching materials, online video and audio resources, and the professional development and support necessary to make the program an engaging experience for students.

 

Your students will learn simplified versions of repertoire selections on soprano recorder, voice, dance, or body percussion and will join with the symphony to play in a special concert!

What is the Temple Hill Symphony Orchestra?

The Temple Hill Symphony Orchestra is a 501c3 organization that provides free concerts to Oakland and the surrounding communities. We perform two yearly concerts at the Oakland Temple Hill Auditorium in addition to supporting the Temple Hill Choir in their performances. Our organization is composed of professional and amateur musicians from all over the Bay Area who volunteer their time to bring free, accessible music to the community. 

 

Our Link Up school field trip concert will be held at the Temple Hill Auditorium (4780 Lincoln Ave, Oakland, CA) on Friday, March 5th at 10:00am. In addition, students have the highly recommended option of playing in a public concert on Saturday, March 6th, at 7:00pm so they can share what they’ve been doing with family and friends. 

 

What we provide:

–Link Up curriculum resources for each teacher (featuring repertoire for singing, playing the soprano recorder, and program-related lesson plans and activities) with accompanying audio and video resources

–Link Up resources for students

–Professional development resources and webinar for lead teachers and administrators, scheduled via Zoom on Thursday, October 22nd at 7:00pm (with an additional optional in-person training at a later date). 

–Access to Carnegie Hall’s online resources, including additional lessons and interactive classroom resources

–Access to Carnegie Hall’s Link Up Facebook group, which connects teachers, Carnegie Hall staff, and featured contributors to share ideas, student work, videos, and photos

 

What you provide:

–Student instruction for learning the music

–Soprano recorders for each student (we have a limited number of recorders if your school doesn’t already have these)

–Transporation and chaperones for the final concerts

 

About the Music:

The Orchestra Rocks

Music rocks when it is powerful and edgy, and when it propels both audiences and performers into motion. Composers and musicians create music that rocks by playing with rhythm, using patterns and grooves to drive music forward. Through the Link Up repertoire, hands-on activities, and a culminating interactive performance with The Temple Hill Symphony Orchestra, students will experience how it feels when the orchestra rocks.
